Part 1 - Introduction
How can I even begin to introduce Morrowind? To many fans, it is more than just a game - it is another world, full of culture, adventure and mystery. Despite being nearly 15 years old, the community continues to thrive and produce a steady stream of new content for the game, bringing its graphical capabilities to a level comparable with Skyrim and offering virtually unlimited replayability.
The problem is, with so many mods and utilities available, setting up the game can be a complicated and daunting task. Mods often need to be installed and loaded in the correct order to avoid conflicts. This guide, like many others, attempts to document the installation process in a simple step-by-step fashion. I have tried to keep it as concise as possible so some technical competence is assumed. If you're looking for something more in-depth, I recommend Cavanoskus' (Re)installing Morrowind, which is an excellent guide that goes into much greater detail.
A Note on Mods
It is important that you understand the basics of mod management before attempting to install the mods listed herein. Lucky for you, I have written a guide to help with this!
Please note that where mods are concerned, this guide contains my own personal preferences, which may not be to everyone's tastes. I have generally tried to stay close to the vanilla look-and-feel of Morrowind. In many cases, I have also included links to notable alternatives to my own recommendations.
There are so many mods out there that I can't possibly cover them all, but please if you think a mod is missing that ought to be included - or if any of the links are broken or outdated.
Should you need to find any mods for yourself, they can usually be found on one of the following sites:
You can find links to all of my mods here.
Finally, I recommend Trunksbomb's Mod Testing CharGen to assist with testing mods; it allows you to skip the whole character generation process and quick-start the game with a max-stats character.
In this guide, mods will be presented in the following format:
Mod Title and Author
Notes / extra info.
Problems / bugs / concerns.
I would like to thank the following people and pages for information that helped me produce this guide:
