Rival Realms - Source Code Request
Rival Realms is an old strategy game akin to Warcraft. I won't go into too much detail in this post, but suffice to say, it is a seriously underrated game that has sadly been lost to the void of time.
Like many old games, it has not aged well; it lacks support for any resolution higher than 800x600, and it has problems running in modern versions of Windows. I have had some luck using the Sold Out Software version of the game, but, bizarrely, a crucial feature of the game, the ability to rest units and regain health, doesn't work for some reason (in fact, when I tested just now, my Warlord's health actually went down when I told him to rest). That, and the multiplayer is pretty shaky; I have managed to get it working maybe once since my childhood.
I hate to see a good game die.
I would love to have the source code to this game, so that I could fix it up and perhaps add some new features. Even just a private copy so that I could play with my brothers. Given the obscurity of this game and the rarity of any surviving copies, I highly doubt anyone is making money off it. So unless the owner of the source code decides to withhold it for some selfish or strange legal reason, the real question is, whom should I ask?
I have already gone through the credits with a fine-toothed comb and reached out to everyone I could find reference to on the internet, but to no avail. I even managed to get through to a past employee of the now-extinct Titus Interactive, but he hadn't even heard of the game!
I've also tried running the code under IDA, a software disassembler, but I succeeded only in crashing the game. (It probably doesn't help that I know nothing about IDA.)
And, so, it has come to this. This is a public request for the source code to Rival Realms. I realise it's extremely unlikely that anyone - let alone anyone with the power to help - will read this, but I see no other options and there's no harm in asking.
Please contact me if you have any information about this game.
